Undergraduate Fire Ecology Certificate (401 Series Classes)

Print

The NAU School of Forestry Undergraduate Fire Ecology Certificate is designed to help fire professionals meet the 401-series requirements while learning information that will be useful in their jobs. The certificate is a total of 15 units, but classes may be taken separately for fewer units. The certificate has not formally been approved by the university at this point, but the courses are available starting spring 2007 and can be taken for 401 series credit and eventually the undergraduate fire ecology certificate.

The Undergraduate fire ecology certificate incorporates classes from:

  • Fire Ecology
  • Fire Science and Fuel Management
  • Ecology, Biology and Environmental Science
  • Measurement, Analysis and Technology
  • Management, Planning and Policy

For the certificate, 3 units must be taken in each of the above sections for a total of 15 units. However, courses are offered individually, so any of the courses can be taken for college and 401 credit. The School of Forestry has been working directly with the Southwestern Region (Region 3) of the Forest Service in the development of this program. Please note that a total of 18 upper division undergraduate units are required for the 401 series requirement, where only 15 units are needed for the undergraduate certificate. Additional courses can be taken if all 18 units are needed.
