The NAU School of Forestry Undergraduate Fire Ecology Certificate is designed to help fire professionals meet the 401-series requirements while learning information that will be useful in their jobs. The certificate is a total of 15 credits, 9 of which must be taken at NAU. In order to satisfy the requirements of the certificate, all courses must be taken for a letter grade, and a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 must be achieved in these courses. In addition, one class must be taken from each of the following areas of study:
  • Fire Ecology
  • Fire Science and Fuel Management
  • Ecology, Biology and Environmental Science
  • Measurement, Analysis and Technology
  • Management, Planning and Policy

Additional On-line Courses Offered Fall 2008

These courses are not directly part of the Undergraduate Fire Ecology and Management Certificate but are available to satisfy addtional units that may be needed beyond the certificate. These courses are regular NAU distance learning courses and are not designed especially for managers. Current offerings are a good introduction to Vista and Forestry.

Please Note: There is some indication that 100 & 200 level courses may not satisfy the 401-series requirements. Please check with your human resources officer.
